A good place to start

If you live close-by, the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal (C&O Canal) is a good place to start. 182 miles of flatness, with campsites spaced closely , it makes an excellent place to start if you want to become a backpacker (not saying I am one, I juts enjoy it) or if you just want to take a relaxing day-trip. Along the trail, you'll come across canal locks and houses, informational plaques, and NPS manned stationed where you can learn a lot about the canal and the area around it.
